May 18, 2022-Board Meeting
Among other items, the Board approved engineering contracts for important maintenance projects at the McCollom Water Treatment Plant to ensure water reliability and safety. The Board also approved a contract to rehabilitate energy-producing turbines providing green energy to our energy grid. OMWD staff also presented insurance renewal information, advising that premium quotes for liability and property insurance shot up 30%, and the Cyber liability premium skyrocketed by 138%. Having no other premium options available, the Board accepted the quotes for the 2023 fiscal year. However, the Board directed staff to obtain quotes from other insurance options, including public risk pools used by many other local water agencies.

May 3-5, 2022 -Association of California Water Agencies Conference

The conference brings together California water agencies, state policymakers, and others in the water industry. The conference is essential in the era of drought and environmental and water quality challenges. I attended programs on groundwater, water quality (including microplastics), new regulations, water law, operational responses to ongoing drought conditions, and water system consolidation rules and regulations. I will use this invaluable information to ensure that OMWD continues to provide its customers with safe, high-quality, and reliable water without wasteful spending or unnecessary rate increases.
