January 22, 2022- Olivenhain Reservoir
Above are some pictures I took after a hike to the Olivenhain Dam & Reservoir that sits almost hidden atop OMWD’s Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve (EFRR). It is one of the largest roller-compacted dams in North America. A healthy “stroll” on OMWD’s “Way-Up” trail takes you to a view of the reservoir, where OMWD provides picnic benches and other walking trails that provide beautiful views of the reservoir and panoramic vistas of San Diego County and beyond. I encourage you to put on some good walking/hiking shoes, splash on some sunscreen, pack a lunch and enjoy for free one of the scenic highlights of North County from OMWD’s recreational reserve.
However, parking can be a challenge, especially during weekends, due to EFRR’s growing popularity. The Board and OMWD staff are working hard to locate grant money to help fund an expansion of safe parking near the entrance off of Elfin Forest Road. Please follow all of the parking rules.
