April 14, 2023- Tour of the State Water Project

On April 14-15, 2023, I participated in a group tour of the California State Water Project in Northern California and Bay Delta, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District. The tour gave me an invaluable first-hand view of our state water system and its challenges that will lead me to make informed decisions benefiting our ratepayers and the water community. It also allowed me to meet other policy-makers in the water community and understand their needs. The tours started with a trip to Lake Oroville, the second-largest reservoir in California. We then went to the future location of the Sites reservoir, which, when completed, will capture and store stormwater flows from the Sacramento River for release in dry years to offset water shortages. Finally, we toured the Bay Delta, where water is pumped to supply water to parts of Southern California. The two-day trip was a whirlwind, starting at 6 am and ending into the evening each day, but well worth it!
