April 14, 2023- Tour of the State Water Project

On April 14-15, 2023, I participated in a group tour of the California State Water Project in Northern California and the Bay Delta, sponsored by the Metropolitan Water District. The tour gave me an invaluable firsthand view of our state water system and its challenges, which will help me make informed decisions that benefit our ratepayers and the water community. It also allowed me to meet other policymakers in the water community and understand their needs. The tour began with a trip to Lake Oroville, the second-largest reservoir in California. We then visited the future site of the Sites Reservoir, which, when completed, will capture and store stormwater flows from the Sacramento River for release in dry years to offset water shortages. Finally, we toured the Bay Delta, where water is pumped to supply parts of Southern California. The two-day trip was a whirlwind, starting at 6 am and ending each day in the evening, but it was well worth it!
