April 11, 2023-OMWD Completes Water Saving Project
I was privileged to attend the April 11 ribbon-cutting ceremony at MiraCosta College in Cardiff to celebrate the completion of OMWD’s latest recycled water pipeline project. The project delivers recycled water to residents, homeowners associations, schools, retirement communities, places of worship, and businesses along Manchester Avenue. The recycled water will be used for irrigation and will offset the demand for imported drinking water by more than 27 million gallons per year, reducing our reliance on water from the Colorado River and State Water Project. March 20, 2023-Neal Meyers joins the Board of the County Water Authority
On March 15, 2023, I was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the San Diego County Water Authority (SDCWA). This important body sets our wholesale water rates and water policies for the entire San Diego region. I will serve on the important Administrative and Finance and Imported Water Committees. What happens at the SDCWA directly impacts OMWD, including its wholesale water rates and water reliability. I will strongly advocate for OMWD’s interests on this Board.
The weblink to view the entire SDCWA Board of Directors, meeting notices and meeting agendas is found here: https://www.sdcwa.org/about-us/board-of-directors/

January 18, 2023-Meyers Advocates for More Board Transparency
Every year, the OMWD Board of Directors sets annual objectives for its staff to implement to meet our mission to provide safe, reliable, high-quality drinking water, wastewater treatment, and park services in a cost-effective and environmentally responsive manner. Doing so requires as much transparency as possible for our ratepayers. When I was appointed to the Board in 2021, I learned that our Board and committee meetings are not streamed online, nor were recordings of our meetings posted for public access. That is not the transparency our ratepayers deserve. At our January 18, 2023, Board meeting, I proposed, and the Board accepted as an annual objective that staff investigates the cost, feasibility, and potential viewer engagement of live public streaming of OMWD public meetings. We should have a staff report soon. I will also advocate adding recordings to OMWD’s website for the public to access anytime. I believe this is long overdue.
